Is salsa low FODMAP?

If you’re in the elimination phase of the low FODMAP diet then you’ll know that garlic & onion are EVERYWHERE. Which, if you’re a normal healthy person, this isn’t a bad thing (garlic is an amazing prebiotic!). But if you’re suffering from IBS, these two veggies could be contributing to your belly woes. •

Garlic & onion are high in a type of carbohydrates call oligosaccharides, specifically Fructans () that are malabsorbed then fermented. EVERYONE malabsorbs them, but if you have IBS you really feel it because of your hypersensitive gut.

Now why do I have two pictures of salsa up there? Because salsa traditionally contains garlic and onion! @fodyfoods makes an awesome low FODMAP version that tastes amazing (not an ad, just a fan 🏼‍♀️). I found my jar @sprouts but you can buy from @thrivemarket @amazon or directly from FODY foods. •

One of the worst parts of going on an elimination diet is feeling like you have nothing to eat. Luckily there are products out there that are low FODMAP friendly. Still struggling? I offer virtual nutrition counseling and I LOVE helping clients on the low FODMAP diet. Contact me via link in profile
